Down and Dirty Chai Cocktail

Ingredients

1 cup half-and-half

1 tablespoon agave syrup 

1 teaspoon ground cardamom 

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 

1/2 teaspoon smashed peppercorns

10 whole cloves 

6 whole allspice berries

1 cinnamon stick 

6 cups hot brewed coffee 

4 ounces bourbon 

Whipped cream, for garnish 

4 star anise pods, for garnish 

Directions

  1. Heat the half-and-half in a small saucepan over medium heat until barely simmering. Add the agave, cardamom, ginger, peppercorns, cloves, allspice and cinnamon; stir gently. Turn off the heat and let steep for 15 to 20 minutes. Strain.
  2. Divide the chai mixture among four mugs. Add 1 1/2 cups coffee and 1 ounce bourbon to each mug; stir gently. Garnish with whipped cream and star anise.
